Adverse Event Reporting

Each avoidable Adverse Drug Event can cost healthcare institutions up to $4,600 in direct patient care costs, not including risk exposure costs. Topsail Technologies provided the design and development expertise to build a system that allows hospitals to identify, document, peer review, and improve the safety of medication and clinical systems. The result is enhanced communication and awareness of process issues, leading to process improvements and greater patient safety.

Brightleaf Capital Dashboard

Fund managers need instant access to a plethora of financial metrics. Topsail developed a web-based dashboard with spreadsheet-like views of automatically updated stock data, organized by sectors and themes. The system gives the fund manager a bird's eye view of the "universe" of stocks being researched, making it easy to track current and historical performance in a variety of areas.

Clinical Research Support and QA

The Clinical Research Support Office (CRSO) selected Topsail to develop a custom web application for CRSO analysts to use to oversee and validate every ongoing clinical trial at Duke. The software has a highly specialized user-interface optimized to allow CRSO staff to evaluate the status of thousands of studies and tens of thousands of subjects more efficiently than was possible before the software was developed. As a result, the CRSO has realized an order of magnitude gain in the efficiency over their previous validation process.

Graduate Medical Education

Topsail designed and built the Oracle database and web application that supports the data management needs for the Duke Graduate Medical Education office. Key data are centrally available to the GME office and to residency program directors and residents throughout Duke’s health system.

Shared Resource Facility Manager

The Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI) assembled state-of-the-art technologies into Shared Resources to support research initiatives in the areas of Vaccine Immunology, Immune Reconstitution, Host Pathogen Interaction, and Emerging Infectious Disease and Biodefense. Topsail worked with the DHVI to design and build a comprehensive Facility Manager application - FacMan - to manage members, shared resource scheduling, and billing. FacMan manages the scheduling of resources such as Flow Cytometry instruments with a graphical calendar tool, as well as managing the complex rates for different members and affiliates to support comprehensive invoice billing.
