The Environmental Finance Center (EFC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is dedicated to enhancing the ability of governments and other organizations to provide environmental programs and services in fair, effective and financially sustainable ways. The EFC has been creating dashboards to assist local government officials and others in making financial management decisions for environmental services. The EFC wanted to modernize the underlying database, data management processes, and data visualization presentation of their dashboards.

The EFC selected Topsail to help develop an enterprise database to feed in real time an online interactive data visualization tool, and also to develop the online data visualization tool to display key metrics and benchmarks of quantitative information in graphical form. Topsail engineers collaborated with the EFC staff to produce what we all consider a stellar dashboard database system and visualization. These dashboards were previsouly deployed in Flash but now run on all browsers and tablets using pure HTML and Javascript.
